The Vortex Pillar is one of the four pillars that spawns after defeating the Lunatic Cultist.

The shield around the Vortex Pillar will be lowered after 100 enemies are killed (150 in Expert), allowing the player to damage and destroy the pillar. Exiting the game will reset this count.

The monsters that spawn near the Vortex Pillar are:

Strategy[]

Unlike the Nebula or Stardust Pillar, it is generally not advised to fight this pillar first because the enemies around it can easily overwhelm the player, even with good equipments.

The main nuisance of this pillar are the Hornets, they will fire a projectile wich inflicts ''Distorted", a debuff that makes the player lose control of the gravity, and wobble upward and downward periodically. Additionally they also spawn out maggots, who grow from larva to Hornet, then to the Queen, and can potentially swarm the player, making them an easy target to nearby Vortexian and Storm Divers around. Despiste this, you can intentionally make the hornets reproduce, so you can easily achieve the 100-kills threshold and quickly plunder the shield in less than a few minutes, but in order to do so you must have high defense, DPS capabilities and a strategy to mitigate the Distorted effect, such as hooks along with a skybridge above the pillar.

After the shield gets down, don't forget to kill the roaming hornets before going straight into the pillar, because they can easily thwart your progress and may even force you away from the pillar, possibly leading to a swift death as well. Once destroyed, you can grab the fragments and build two Endgame weapons: Vortex Beater and Phantasm.

Solar Eruption Tactic[]

An easy way to take this pillar out is to first craft the Solar Eruption then build a small box around the player while under, or above the pillar. Since no Vortex enemy are able to pass through blocks, you can simply swing the flail over and over until the shield goes down, then proceed to attack the pillar until it's destroyed. Please note that this tactic can only be executed if you destroyed the Solar Pillar beforehand.
