Hi there!

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Leet-Pete and I used to be one of this wiki's several admins some years back, until I went inactive. Right now I'm trying to refamiliarize myself with wiki markup, I seem to have forgotten some of it. I want to get back into editing, but I haven't played Terraria for years. Not sure whether I'll be doing just occasional edits or if I'll start playing the game again and/or put a bigger effort into it. Well, I mostly do pretty basic editing anyway. We'll see.

I see you've been busy moderating and editing the wiki, I'm glad to see that the wiki has been kept clean! 🙂 Hope you've enjoyed it and that it hasn't been one big chore. Btw, are you the only active admin right now?

Hi! I sort of remember you, as I was here from 2011 onward :) I am pretty much the only active admin, and I believe Oscuritaforze peeks in to make some helpful fixes here and there. Once I was the only active one around, I inquired to Wikia staff for help gaining the bureaucrat title in case I needed to perform certain tasks, and they treated it like a wiki adoption process and demoted anyone who wasn't active. It's nice to hear you are possibly becoming interested in Terraria again! The game is still updating, and will soon experience a big update (1.3.6) That I am quite looking forward to. There will be plenty to edit when this happens. I am trying to keep up on things, as well as keeping the new Discussions App tidy and free of spam and inappropriate posts, but I know I am slowly getting behind. I'm not stressed about it, I do what I can with my free time, and welcome any assistance of a competent nature ;)
Just ask me if you have any questions about editing, and I'll be happy to help as best I can.
 Squirrelicon3.pngSquazzil Talk | Wed 7 November 2018, 08:54 Squirrelicon4.png
Thanks for the info! Yeah, Wikia staff tend to do things their own way, but that's OK, as we were inactive anyway. They didn't remove any bureaucrats' rights though, right? Because that would be a questionable decision, in my opinion.
I'm surprised to hear they're still patching and adding content to the game. That's cool! I'll definitely try the game out again soon! Block swapping seems like it will make editing buildings much easier, for instance.
Yep, stressing about what can/should be done isn't worth it. Hopefully I'll be able to offer some assistance. If there's something you consider to be of high priority in terms of editing or whatever and you'd like some help, don't hesitate to ask and I'll see what I can do. 😊
Could you possibly grant me admin rights again? If you need to look into it first, maybe ask for Oscurita's opinion, as well.
I would appreciate help cleaning up the edits in recent activity, lately there's been a lot and I can't keep up. I don't think I can be in direct communication with Forze or The Pathogen (the two most recent admins) as they don't really come around anymore. So it's just me basically. I can re-promote over time if you have decided to stick around for consistent contributions.
 Squirrelicon3.pngSquazzil Talk | Sat 10 November 2018, 04:23 Squirrelicon4.png
That's fine and the recent activity seems pretty clean right now, unless you're thinking several days back.

Admin rights

Hi, as you've noticed, I've been inactive for a while and would like my admin rights back, if you don't mind. To be honest, it's a little bit demotivating to see me losing them simply for being inactive for a while. This may apply to others, as well. The wiki needs all the help it can get right now. If we had more admins, it would make sense, but as you know, it's just you and a semi-active Oscurita. Putting me as "semi-active" or "currently inactive" would've been sufficient. I hope you can understand my perspective. That's all, and like I've said before, I really appreciate your hard work on the wiki.

Btw, there's a new (useless) page that needs deleting, called Elemental souls. The Souls page already has that covered.

Welcome back, and sorry for my misunderstanding. I waited a bit before promoting you, and decided it would be good to have another active admin and gave you the rights. I was hoping to see you again shortly after that, but you went inactive. I didn't know if you were coming back, so i undid it. I know the mentality around here was that admins and other staff could go inactive indefinitely and not lose their title, and I also know other wikis will remove rights after a certain amount of inactivity. I would really like to have your help so I will make all the needed changes to re-add you as admin soon. It's fairly late at the moment and I don't feel like fiddling with all the tags and changes needed.

"I know the mentality around here was that admins and other staff could go inactive indefinitely and not lose their title (...)"
That hasn't been my mentality and I don't think it has been for most other admins either. I've now been inactive three times during my time here and both of the times in the past (once inactive 6-7 months, another time several years), my admin rights were removed and I had no problem with it whatsoever. Now it's a little different because there's overall less interest in the game, so not as easy to find replacements. And you're the only active person with admin rights, which is, as you know, not enough. I also think I've proved that I know how to use the admin rights fairly and that I'm a valuable asset to the wiki. Not bragging, I think that's pretty objective.

Yes, we've had our fair share of inactive admins, because people's motivation to do voluntary work will almost always go up and down, and when it's down, it's important that there's no barrier that hinders their/our work. It's not about "losing a title" - it's about what's best for the wiki's development and maintenance. In most of the cases of this wiki's inactive admins I know about, there has been more risk than reward in demoting them. Active admins were separated from the inactive or semi-active ones, so the users knew who to get in touch with for assistance and other things. I don't think that at any point we've had "too many" admins in any regard either.

"I also know other wikis will remove rights after a certain amount of inactivity."
That doesn't mean it's always a good idea to do so. Why was it necessary to remove my rights after only right over one month of inactivity?

Anyway, I'm not mad or anything, I just felt like expressing how it made me feel a little demotivated. I hope we can both stay motivated in the future and that we can work together to keep making this wiki a good place. I'm certainly glad you've kept at it while I've been gone. Also, I've recently regained some of my passion for the game and I'm really looking forward to the next patch!

Btw, do you happen to know of any good candidates for admin rights?

I mentioned that because back when there was more admins, someone had mentioned it was nice that this wiki was a place they could be gone a long time and come back and still have the title. Anyway, it doesn't really matter now. I actually felt pretty bad that everyone got demoted when I asked Wikia if I could be upgraded to Bureaucrat because I was alone and might need all the available tools. They did it like an adoption process, and demoted anyone that was inactive for a certain period of time. It's hard for me to explain the reasons why wikis will demote, but someone explained it to me that it can be risky leaving titles on indefinitely because someone that leaves for a long time might come back and abuse their power. I know if I knew i was leaving for a long time I would allow my title to be taken away, and if I ever returned, I'd have to earn it back with the current staff that most likely don't know me. Lastly, I don't have anyone else (other than you) in mind for admin. We could use another moderator for the Discussions app, as that place is quite active with mobile users, and its hard to keep up to the postings.

An experiment to help grow your wiki’s engagement!

Hello! We’ve been analyzing what makes people spend more time on wikis and we’ve identified something. It’s comments! Having comments enabled on a wiki gives it a boost to the time people spend on the pages and engage with the wiki.

We would like to enable comments on your wiki to help it grow as part of an experiment.

This will not happen if you don’t agree with trying this out! It’s entirely up to you!

We believe that this experiment will help your wiki and if you have any problems along the way we can always roll back and disable comments.

So, what do you think? Are you interested in trying this with us? We’d love to work with you to help grow your community!

Looking forward to hearing from you! HeyTots (talk) 18:14, April 17, 2020 (UTC)

This wiki did have comments enabled for a long time. Over those years, it became increasingly clear that the comment section only encouraged people to spam, troll or insult each other. It also was a consistent annoyance in the newsfeed to people that wanted to help edit the wiki because the comments clogged up the feed and made it harder to scroll through recent edits to make sure edits were correct, find vandalisms etc. We frequently had members that seemed only interested in visiting numerous random pages to make one word comments to boost their "edit" count and make it look like they had contributed a lot. We discussed the pros and cons of page comments with other admins and the community and decided to disable them. If people wanted to ask questions about an in game item or enemy, they were free to ask it in the forums or the Discussions App. Any important or helpful comment could be added in these two ways and therefore commenting on the specific pages didn't seem as needed. This wiki has seen less activity lately because the game is simply getting old and doesn't hold the appeal it used to. Activity may very well pick up with the final update to the game coming next month, and coming with that, the need to add several new article pages. It is my opinion that enabling comments will just encourage more unneeded spam, something I already don't have time to clear in the mobile friendly discussions app. The new game content will be enough to handle for the few people left on this wiki that try to add and edit the pages without moderating the comment section for inappropriate remarks.

Someone has vandalized the front page with anime. Please fix. ——Blackdragon86

I recently saw that the Suspicious Looking Tentacle, all the Rocket pages, the Ball o Hurt page, the Nutcracker page, and a bunch of others had been vandalized by removing all info and putting inappropriate things on them. Please fix. --Blackdragon86

Doom Paladin (talk) 11:46, June 16, 2020 (UTC)Doom Paladin

Hi Squazzil,

I'm just writing this message to inform you just in case you didn't notice, that there's something going on in the chat of the English Fandom. There are people, who feel like you (the admins) are not doing your work (not my opinion) and try to organise votes for a new staff member without having an admin involved. I tried to tell them that „one does not simply get mod here", but the whole spam doesn't seem to stop.

Of course you could just ignore the whole thing and it would stop at some point eventually. But that's not really a solution to the problem. A lot of the community seems really frustrated about the whole not removing of spam comments etc.

And just to clear things up, I'd like to see an admin get involved and clear up the situation.

With best regards

Doom Paladin

Good morning, Squazzil,

I am the main person going on in the election mentioned by the previous poster, Doom Paladin. This user did indeed warn us that we could in fact not just take the spot of an admin nor moderator. Unfortunately, I dont want to take anyone's spot. This election (Happening at the end of the month) Is raising the spirits of each person who has entered to campaign against the other people, and the people who are voting for each specific person. I did try to reach out about this election to make sure it would be alright with the administrators, but no one responded. That post has been up for several days, waiting for a response. Anyway, I just wanted to say, Im leading this thing. If you dont want it to happen, tell me, and to the disappointment of all participants, I will shut it down. But if you do not mind, Then we will go on with the show. Many people in the general tab are excited to see this happen on a wiki that does not have too much traffic, and so they can actually have something fun to participate in during these times.

Thanks a bunch, --OoferClaus69 (talk) 13:22, June 16, 2020 (UTC)

Hi, sorry I haven't responded too quickly. Just wanted to ask, are you talking about the Discussions App portion of the wiki? And you are wanting a Discussions Moderator to keep the chat there under control? I had thought I was getting help from a Global Discussions Mod, but I will go there and have a look.

You are, I don't know why the mayor thing came about. However, this has been rectified and I've made it clear this isn't happening. All under control 343TheGuiltyProphetGlobal Discussions Moderator 18:06, July 2, 2020 (UTC)

Help with Guide

Hey squazill I need help my guide died during the night and he hasn't respawned for days. btw, i'm on mobile and does that affect anything? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andythemage (talkcontribs). Please sign talk page posts with ~~~~ (4 tildes).

I don't play mobile so it might be a bug, but also make sure you have a valid house for him to live in or he won't respawn. Hope this helps.

Top-level Category Rename

Unless you have an objection, I'm going to be renaming to and updating any links as required on this wiki. According to Fandom's internal research, this provides a little boost to SEO over the more generic names such as Browse, Content, Index, Wiki content, Game, etc.

If you already have a category by that name, it will become the top-level category and things in Content will move under it. Sound like a plan? Let me know if you have any questions. You may, of course, opt out if you wish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moviesign (talkcontribs). Please sign talk page posts with ~~~~ (4 tildes).

Hi, are you talking about  ? If so, I guess it's fine? I can admit I don't know what improvement it makes to the wiki.  Squirrelicon3.pngSquazzil Talk | Mon 31 August 2020, 03:08 Squirrelicon4.png
Yes, I meant Contents, that was a typo. The deed is done, not a big deal. It helps the wiki by giving search engines like Google a context that means more than a generic term like "Browse" or "Game". All new wikis will be set up this way from the start. We are just retrofitting the top wikis to comply with this new paradigm. —Moviesign (talk) 12:49, August 31, 2020 (UTC)

Page Permissions

Hi! I just started editing on this Wiki, and I've been wondering if I could add to a few pages I don't have permissions on? I've been using this Wiki as a source of information for around two years, and I think it would be great if I could contribute :D If not, I completely understand; this is just a little inquiry. Access to the Monsters template and Flails page would be a great start! I'm also going to be looking into Master Mode, so I might need to create a "relics" page :)
