The Truffle Worm is a rare passive monster that can be found in underground Glowing Mushroom biomes when Hard Mode has been enabled. If it is used with any kind of Fishing Pole in the Ocean, it will summon Duke Fishron. Like other critters, they can be caught with a Bug Net, yielding a Truffle Worm (Material).

When approached, the Truffle Worm will flee within a couple of seconds, digging away from the player at great speed. It is advised to approach them very rapidly while already swinging the Bug Net to have the best chance of catching them. It is also helpful to use some sort of grappling hook, but requires a relatively high ranged grappling hook.

Notes[]

  • It can be hard to catch a Truffle Worm before it burrows as it often gets stuck in a small hole that the player's Bug Net can't reach, a good way to collect them is by making a farm for them.
  • A pretty efficient way of increasing the spawn rate of Truffle Worms is by using some Battle Potions, and Water Candles.
  • Use of the Golden Bug Net is recommended if possible, as the faster swing speed makes it much easier to hit them.
  • If Truffle Worms are in fact in small spaces, dropping on them while frantically using the bug or golden bug net is an effective way to get them.
  • It is still possible to catch truffle worms on multiplayer if it is still burrowing. (The other player must be in the same direction where the truffle worm is going and then has to catch it quickly).
  • Minions won't target the truffle worm, but can accidentally kill it.
  • Hunter Potions can make this mob easier to find.
  • When spawning Duke Fishron, a truffle worm will always be consumed. Items that reduce the chance of bait consumption such as the Tackle Box will have no effect.

Tips on Catching[]

  1. In order to capture the worm, use the Rod of Discord then warp next to the worm and catch it.
  2. Frostspark boots or any kind of gear that makes the player run faster will make it easier to catch.
  3. Use the Lifeform Analyzer, R.E.K. 3000, or Cell Phone to detect the worm nearby. It won’t show you exactly where it is, but it’ll tell you if it’s spawned.
  4. Motivational note: Don’t get discouraged if you fail to catch it your first few times. We’ve all been in your shoes before! Just keep doing what you love, and if that’s Terraria, so be it :).
