Stingers are dropped from Spiked Jungle Slimes and Hornets (although they are not dropped by Moss Hornets), which are found only in the Underground Jungle.
Consider using movement enhancements (Rocket Boots, Grappling Hook, Ivy Whip, or a Lucky/Obsidian Horseshoe) while harvesting Stingers to prevent falling down through the Underground Jungle and dying from fall damage.
