The Nimbus Rod is a spell obtained by killing an Angry Nimbus, which appears when it rains in a hardmode world. The weapon casts a cloud at the cursor's location that does damage in the form of rain that falls directly under it. Up to two clouds can be cast simultaneously that will last for 67 seconds each, before disappearing. When a third cloud is summoned, the first cloud that was summoned disappears. It is considered to be the upgraded version of the Crimson Rod. The clouds cast by the Nimbus Rod and Crimson Rod are counted separately; a player may use both at the same time.
Strategy[]
It is useful where constant damage prevents action (Eg. Paladin) and to kill mobs while focusing on a higher priority target (Eg. to take care of Possessed Armors while you fight The Twins). The Nimbus Rod is also a great weapon to use with the Spectre Armor due to the constant damage that it inflicts and the lack of knockback.
This weapon is not a good fit for offensive playstyles as the clouds can only stay in one place and Hard Mode enemies can likely walk through it without taking too much damage. To make full use of this weapon, place it above or below where there are clusters of enemies gathering to make the most of the splash damage effect. This weapon could be considered as a temporary trap maker if the player has a pit to collect mobs in; the player can kill them all with one cloud of the Nimbus Rod if it is prepared correctly.
Notes[]
- Because the Nimbus Rod has no knockback, the best prefix obtainble for it is Mystic or Piercing.
- The Nimbus Rod is extremely useful for battling any boss or enemy with multiple body parts or segments like the Destroyer due to the high amount of constant damage and infinite pierce.
Bugs[]
- When the spell is cast directly on the ground, the cloud will form as usual, but the rain is able to pass through 3 blocks (vertically) and still deal damage.
