The Mud Block is slightly darker than Dirt Blocks. It will sustain Underground Jungle grass. It will sustain Mushroom Grass at any depth.
The largest single source of Mud in any given world is the Underground Jungle and the Surface Jungle.
When the world is in Hardmode, any corrupted block will turn Mud Blocks into Dirt Blocks up to 3 blocks away. Mushroom Grass blocks are not affected.
