The Derpling is a hostile Hard Mode mob that spawns in the Jungle. It appears to be a beetle with two very long legs, and hops around at a very fast speed. It often tries to jump on top of the player, dealing heavy damage even while wearing Hard Mode armor. An easy way to dispatch is to simply use ranged weapons such as a Clockwork Assault Rifle, or heavy knockback weapons such as Spears.

- Together with the Herpling, it may be a reference to the Herp Derp meme, possibly because of their name, appearance, and somewhat silly looking jumping animation.
- Not to be confused with the Herpling.
- Since 1.3, Derplings now make new sounds.
- Unlike the Herpling, the Derpling does not float on water, which leaves few safe places against it.
