The Copper Shortsword is the sword that new characters first spawn with. It is the first and lowest-level shortsword, crafted with 5 Copper Bars at an Iron Anvil.
As a shortsword, it is swung in a quick stabbing motion pointed in the direction of the mouse cursor, similar to a spear.
Notes[]
- Characters who die on Mediumcore mode will spawn with a new version of this item, even if they had one in their inventory at the time of death. This can include the weapon having a new prefix.
- On mobile, players start with a Wooden Sword instead of this weapon.
Trivia[]
- The Copper Shortsword is effectively rendered completely redundant by the Wooden Sword, a stronger weapon with a more useful swinging pattern which is only marginally more difficult to obtain. The Journey's End update slightly improved its utility, but its usefulness compared to other weapons is still questionable.
- In spite of - or, perhaps, because of - its status as one of the weakest weapons in the game, the Copper Shortsword became an extremely popular running joke in the Terraria community, giving birth to several mods, memes, and challenges based on it. This popularity was boosted even further upon it becoming a crafting ingredient for the Zenith.
- The Copper Shortsword is considered by many to be the worst weapon in the game. (Excluding weapons that do not do any damage.)
