Boss Monsters are Monsters that are much harder to kill than other monsters. Any boss monster generally has much stronger attacks than a normal enemy, more defense, and considerably higher HP ranging from 2000 to 145000. 2800 to 217500 in Expert Mode. In addition, most boss monsters have their own unique AI, allowing them set movements to go by. Since update 1.2, all bosses can drop a unique trophy (~10% drop rate) that can be placed on a wall for display. In Master Mode bosses drop the mode drops with treasure bags and can drop relics which are in remembrance of defeating that boss in Master Mode.
Many bosses can be summoned by an item such as a Suspicious Looking Eye, Worm Food or Suspicious Looking Skull. (Applies only to old gen consoles)
Certain bosses occasionally spawn themselves in when the player (or all players in a multiplayer world) meets certain criteria, differing with each boss. The spawn will not be interrupted even if the player is not ready, or AFK, but can be bypassed by quitting the world. The bosses that can spawn without summoning items are Eye of Cthulhu, The Destroyer, Skeletron Prime, The Twins, and King Slime.
The criteria and message for each boss can be found in their article.

Pre-Hardmode
- Main article: King Slime
The King Slime, as one might gather, is a slime. It is blue in color and enormous, roughly 10 blocks wide and 5 blocks high. It will decrease in size and spawn Spiked and Blue Slimes when it takes damage. It appears to have a Ninja trapped inside it.
King Slime is summoned with the item Slime Crown, crafted with a Gold Crown and 20 gel at a Demon Altar. It can also be summoned if enough slimes are killed during a Slime Rain, or with a 1/100 chance in the outer thirds of the world. There has been a bug associated with the King Slime, sometimes causing the boss to not spawn/appear. This may be due to the fact that he spawned inside a cave and cannot get out.
The King Slime actually drops a little amount of Gel when he dies, and all of the blue slimes spawned when the King Slime is attacked also drop gel. The King Slime also drops gold coins, a piece of the Ninja Set and some lesser healing potions.
The King Slime is one of the biggest slimes in the game, second only to Queen Slime.
- Main article: Eye of Cthulhu
Players can summon The Eye anywhere, as long as it is night. Sometimes when underground the player may see "You feel an evil presence watching you...", though the Eye will not spawn naturally whilst they are underground, and will instead spawn as soon as the player returns to the surface.
Boss 1 will play during the fight.
- Main article: Eater of Worlds
The Eater of Worlds has 53 parts in three segments; head, body, and tail. To beat this boss all segments must be slain. If the head is destroyed, the next body segment will automatically take its place as a head. The same happens with the tail. If a body segment is destroyed, it will split into two separate worms. Overall, if the heads are avoided with a massive attack of 40 damage, the boss is fairly easy to defeat, especially with weapons that deal damage multiple times per strike, such as the Vilethorn or the Ball O' Hurt.
It is the only boss that can drop Shadow Scales, which are needed to craft Shadow Armour and the Nightmare Pickaxe. It's Crimson equivalent is the The Brain of Cthulhu.
Boss 1 will play during the fight.

Lunar Bosses
- Main article: Ancient Cultist
- Spawns a burst of three homing fire balls which explode on impact.
- Fires a large ice-ball which emits ice shards in six directions as it slowly flies in a single direction.
- Spawns an energy orb which fires large bolts of lightning at the player.
Occasionally, he will also spawn clones of himself (up to five) and attempt to summon a Phantasm Dragon, this is indicated by the Ancient Cultist and his clones arranging themselves around a glowing summoning circle and can be interrupted by correctly choosing and attacking the real Ancient Cultist. The real cultist has a stripe on his hat and a glimmer in his eye.
The four Celestial Pillars spawn in four preset location ranges on the surface of your world once the Ancient Cultist is defeated. The position of each pillar is random among these ranges and can change each time you face them. When they spawn, they have 20,000 and are covered by a shield making them invulnerable until 100 (150 in Expert Mode) pillar-specific monsters (each pillar has its own range of monsters that it spawns) have been disposed of. Once those have been killed the shield dissipates, allowing players to attack them directly. Each of the pillars also has its own attack pattern, which is active both when the shield is up and when it's gone.

- Main article: Mourning Wood
Mourning Wood are monsters that spawn during the Pumpkin Moon event. They shoot flaming projectiles that deal considerable damage to the player. Mourning Wood have 3 different kind of attacks: shooting fire projectiles that pierce through solid objects, spraying a cluster of lingering flames onto the ground, and hurting the player by touch.
The best strategy for taking out Mourning Wood is to used ranged attacks, as their piercing shots come at random intervals and are difficult to dodge. Ranged, Magic, or high knockback weapons are recommended.
- Main article: Pumpking
The Pumpking is a Hardmode boss that spawns during the Pumpkin Moon. It behaves very similarly to Skeletron. It has two lengthy arms, each with a large scythe. These hands act much like Skeletron's hands, but they are indestructible.
It is considered the final boss of the Pumpkin Moon, and subsequent waves after its appearance increase the number of mobs. There can be a large number of Pumpkings attacking at once in the later stages (up to 6 active at the same time).
- Main article: Everscream
Everscream is a miniboss in the Frost Moon event and is comparable to the Mourning Wood. It is a pine tree with red glowing eyes and is covered with snow. Everscreams appear in the fifth wave and onward of the event.
- Main article: Santa-NK1
- More info needed
Santa-NK1 is a boss added in the Christmas update. Like most bosses, it has two phases. It has four different attacks: rocket, main physical damage, bullets, and present care packages. The frost moon, and Santa-NK1, are summoned by using the Naughty Present.
- Main article: Ice Queen
- More info needed
The Ice queen is the Final Boss of The Frost Moon Event. The Ice Queen attacks with three phases. It could either swoop down quickly to touch the player, causing high damage to the player in a short time. Second, it could spin around while quickly spawning frost shards that go in random directions. These frost shards do decent damage, but if many of them hit the player, it could kill the player quickly. Another phase is that it could shoot frost waves that have high velocity and can go through blocks. It does quite high damage and is fired at a fast rate towards the player, so players might find this phase difficult. Once killed she has a 16.6% chance to drop one of the following: Snowman Cannon, North Pole, Blizzard Staff, Baby Grinch Mischief's Whistle, or Reindeer Bells.

Mini-Bosses
- Main article: Wyvern
The Wyvern is a large Hard Mode miniboss. It is a curling, dragon-like creature that attacks at high speed.
Wyvern is not summoned - it occasionally spawns in the sky, around the same point that Harpies spawn. It spawns without warning, so the player should be careful when they are at a high elevation in hardmode.
- Main article: Ice Golem
Ice Golems are an Uncommon miniboss. They spawn in Snow Biomes after activating Hard Mode, during a Blizzard. They will spawn more often during a Blood Moon. Ice Golems are hostile and thus attack the player. While they are able to deal damage by physical contact, they are very slow and will shoot at the player with lasers from afar, which also have a chance to cause a debuff. They are affected very little by knockback, but have a low jump height of only about 3 blocks.
- Main article: Paladin
The Paladin spawns rarely in Hard Mode Dungeons. It throws hammers that will go through walls at the player and will try to walk into the player. When taking constant damage it will stop throwing hammers, but will still walk towards the player, as it is unaffected by knockback.
- Main article: Goblin Summoner
The Goblin Summoner is a miniboss found in Hardmode Goblin Invasions. It has 2000 health and the ability to fly at high speeds. Its primary attack method is shooting Chaos Balls. It will also occasionally summon Shadowflame Apparitions.
- Main article: Dreadnautilus
- Main article: Pirate Captain
The Pirate Captain are a Hard Mode miniboss that spawn as part of the Pirate Invasion. Out of all the pirates, they are the strongest and have the most defense. They are also quite resistant to knockback. They can be very deadly due to their cannon, which is able to inflict large amounts of damage to a player.
- Main article: Mothron
The Mothron is a miniboss that spawns rarely as part of the Solar Eclipse event after all Mechanical Bosses are defeated.
It seems to have a charge pattern similar to that of the Queen Bee. Players should be advised that this enemy can charge through walls that are at least two blocks thick. As the player fights Mothron, it will lay Mothron Eggs which, after a while, will hatch into Baby Mothrons that have a similar attack pattern to the parent.
The three special Mimics spawns rarely in the Underground Corruption, the Underground Crimson, and the Underground Hallow. They are a bigger, more offensive Mimic.
Each of the three has 3500 health and attacks by lunging or stomping on the player. Its stomp attack can travel through blocks. They will occasionally close themselves to prevent all damage.
In addition to natural spawns, the Hallowed Mimic can be spawned by placing a Key of Light in an empty chest, and the Corrupt Mimic or Crimson Mimic can be spawned with the Key of Night.
- Main article: Dark Mage
The Dark Mage is a miniboss that appears in the Old One's Army Event during wave 5 in Tier 1 and during waves 4 and 6 in Tier 3. The Dark Mage will float above the ground and will attack by hurling a magical ball of energy at the player, it can also summon skeletons and heal its allies by conjuring a large rune that provides healing.
- Main article: Ogre
The Ogre is a miniboss that appears in the Old One's Army Event during wave 7 in Tier 2 and waves 5 and 6 in Tier 3. Console Version
- Main article: Ocram
The Ocram's attack style is very similar to that of the Eye of Cthulhu. Like the Eye of Cthulhu, it charges repeatedly at the player while summoning servants. Additionally, it fires numerous red laser beams which spread out. The Ocram has in total 35,000 HP and after knocking its health down to halfway, it will (like most bosses) switch into its second mode, where it continues to summon servants, but will charge constantly and the laser changes to a blue, more damaging laser which spray out at an insane rate. Ocram also uses the demon scythe spell summoning several demon scythes at once doing a fair amount of damage. Souls of Blight are Souls dropped by Ocram. It would take 205 Souls to make all the relevant items. The Ocram needs to be defeated 7 to 14 times in order to craft all of the relevant items using the Souls of Blight, however, since it will always drop one piece of the console-exclusive armor, it means you will need 15-20 less souls saving you a few Ocram fights. As of console 1.2, it now drops its own trophy.
- Main article: Arch Wyvern
The Arch Wyvern is a type of Wyvern found in console Hardmode. With double the health of a normal Wyvern (8000HP) and a damage output of 70-90 damage, the Arch Wyvern is a fearsome foe. It can go through blocks, but if the character walks too far away from it the Arch Wyvern will despawn. Even though it has twice as much health as the regular wyvern it still has the same amount of drops.
